"Alebrijes" are wood figures, very traditional from oaxacan handscraft, which represent animals or fantastic creatures handpainted in bright colors. Although the alebrije concept was not born in Oaxaca, this state adopted and developed them in a fantastic way. Alebrijes represent the innovative and surreal soul of Oaxacan people, who form these figures out of green wood, carving it with rustic machetes and knives, and then painting them by hand.

AUCTION!
The Auction is one of the most expected moments in every year's Symposium. It is an important activity because it raises money for the Student Travel Grant Fund, which has allowed many colleagues from around the world to travel to the symposium to share their knowledge and experience about sea turtles. Both Live and Silent, the Auction draws in a lot of people looking for finding that nice or crazy turtle item to bring home, contribute to the Society and of course have a lot of fun.
We'd like to remind everybody to start collecting their sea turtle auction items to bring to Huatulco, whether they are handscrafts, t-shirts, sea turtle memorabilia, alcohol or a special talent, everything is welcome and everything could reach a nice price during bidding!
For this year, we would like to have less plastic and more organics... more handscrafts and less industrial (and of course, more alcohol!)... But just about any fun sea turtle stuff will do... Huatulco will be the perfect background for a fantastic Auction!
SUBASTA!

No
Esperamos
su participación y nos vemos en Huatulco!
Gaby

For this reason, we are pleased to invite you to tell your story in a video format, and share it with the turtlers community. Interested ones should send the following information to Video Night Chair, Gaby Montiel (mmontielv@gmail.com):

- Title of the video
- Institution or workgroup, and location
- Short summary about the theme and objectives of the video (max. 250 words)
- Format type and length
Please,
take into account that the presentation time for each video will be
between 10 and 15 minutes depending on the number of videos we
received. We
won't be able to show the totality of those videos longer than this
established time. Considering this, if you intend to submit a
video that is longer than 15 minutes, please prepare a shorter
version of it containing the most important messages you want to
transmit; otherwise the projection in the symposium will be stopped
at the appropriate time. This restriction is made to have a smooth
distribution of the presentations in the Video Night and give equal
opportunity to all presenters.
IMPORTANT: The
videos should not have been showed in previous Symposiums. The
video submission dead line is December
16th, 2011.
We
look forward for your participation!
See you in Huatulco!
